Protecting health care workers and other workers who must respond to emerging infectious diseases outbreak in their communities is central to creating effective public health preparedness and programmes. With Zika virus declared a global threat and public health emergency, HCV, HBV and HIV still ongoing and emerging epidemics of Ebola and Lassa fever in Africa continent the life of health care workers continue to be under threat. The capacity of the health system to respond adequately depends on factors such as safety of health care workers, fear, stigma, policy issues and other factors. Significant gaps still exist in preventing occupational transmission of these globally emerging infectious diseases. This special issue is aimed at disseminating research findings in all areas related to the theme. Original research papers are solicited in any aspect related to healthcare workers activities and globally emerging infectious diseases.
